Systems Analyst/Administrator -TS/SCI Clearance - ECS2041

About the Opportunity:

Joint Enterprise Technologies is seeking a talented System Analyst/Administrator for Solaris 8, 9, 10, and Red Hat administration tasks. The ideal candidate will be responsible for administering, installing, configuring and maintaining the organization's UNIX environments.

Required Clearance:

  • An active Department of Defense TS/SCI security clearance is required.
  • Willingness to submit to and pass a counter intelligence (CI) Polygraph.

Essential Functions:

Primary function is supporting Sun servers supporting Oracle databases. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Analyzing and resolving problems associated with server hardware, UNIX and applications software;
  • Detecting, diagnosing, and reporting UNIX related problems on servers;
  • Evaluating and integrating new operating system versions, drivers and hardware testing software updates and patches; 
  • Assisting with the selection, testing and integration of new technologies including implementation of new hardware and software solutions and upgrades;
  • Monitoring and tuning the system to achieve optimum performance levels in standalone and multi-tiered environments;
  • Conducting system analysis to develop improvements for system software performance, availability and reliability; performing incident resolution, problem determination and root cause analysis in accordance with Service Level Agreements;
  • Designing, developing, recommending and implementing new or revised system software, utilities and automated processes as necessary;
  • Assisting with designing, implementing, and testing enterprise backup and recovery solutions, including Disaster Recovery initiatives;
  • Performing sizing and capacity planning to ensure the platforms are robust enough to support the needs of the application systems.

Skill Requirements:

  • Hardware supported includes V880, V440 and V240's and Solaris Blade Systems.
  • Must be capable of providing senior level knowledge/Tier 3 support for Sun Server.
  • Experience with Oracle or Sybase Database Management Systems, NetApp or EMC SANS is a plus.
  • Administering, installing, configuring and maintaining the organization's enterprise storage and Solaris environments.
  • Primary function is supporting NetApp and EMC enterprise level storage arrays and network attached storage devices, and Sun servers supporting Oracle databases.
  • Performs a variety of analytical tasks which are broad in nature and are concerned with the design and implementation, including personnel, hardware, software and support facilities and/or equipment
  • Supervises team through project completion
  • Plans and performs analytical research, design development, and other assignments in conformance with design, engineering and customer specifications
  • Responsible for major technical/engineering projects of higher complexity and importance than those normally assigned to lower level engineers
  • Coordinates the activities of analysts and technicians assigned to specific analytical projects
  • May perform other duties as required

UNIX Team Lead Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and perform UNIX server maintenance
  • Oversee and resolve UNIX server trouble tickets
  • Coordinate and perform UNIX server changes
  • Establish and oversee UNIX server testing environment
  • Evaluate and apply requisite security technical implementation guidance
  • Willing to be on call for 24x7 operations.

  • Strong Communication Skills - verbal and written
  • Intermediary problem analysis and problem solving skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy within documentation
  • Able to interact with Customer via phone, email and video teleconference
  • Adaptability to 24/7 environment
  • Able to work independently within a Team Concept
  • Shift Work is required (work center is 24/7).
  • Position requires the candidate to pass the CI Poly.

Minimum Experience:

A minimum of six years of relevant technical experience in system administration activities such as the configuration and problem isolation of Solaris and Red Hat systems.

Minimum Education:

  • HS/GED + 10 years
  • Associates Degree + 8 years
  • Bachelor’s Degree + 6 years
  • Master’s Degree + 4 years
  • PhD + 2 years

Substitute for Educational Requirement:

  • 10 years of related experience may be substituted for the Bachelor’s Degree.

Required Certifications:

  • Security+ CE or CCNA Security required

Preferred Certifications:

  • Oracle Certified Expert or Oracle Certified Professional (desired)
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) (desired)
  • ITIL Foundations (desired)
